EQUIPD NEWSLETTER ISSUE EIGHT

Autumn Updates & What’s New

It’s been a busy few months since our last edition, and we’re excited to bring you another collection of updates, community shout-outs, and a few new faces around the gym. Whether you’re here for classes, one-on-one support, or to push yourself in the gym, we hope you’ve felt the continued momentum in everything we’re building together at EQUIPD.

Federal Election Advocacy and Member Engagement

April brought some exciting political engagement to EQUIPD as we welcomed re-elected Senators David Pocock and Katy Gallagher, along with Bean candidates Jessie Price and David Lamerton, to our community gym. They toured the facility, spoke with members, and learned more about the impact Exercise Physiology can have on both individuals and the broader healthcare system.

We deeply appreciate your participation, especially those who gave up their workout time or paused their day to share stories and contribute to these conversations. We remain proudly bipartisan in our advocacy, and it’s through these member-led interactions that we can help shape meaningful policy around preventative healthcare.

New High-Ever Active Circuit Class

We’ve introduced a second High Ever Active Circuit Class on Thursdays at 10:30am, offering another more advanced option with a mix of strength and aerobic stations. This class uses a wider variety of equipment and is perfect for those looking to challenge themselves a little more.

Each session is different, but rest assured there are always regressions and progressions available to meet you where you’re at.

Easter Giveaway Wrap-Up

Thank you to the many members who got involved in our Easter Giveaway this April, we received over 2,000 entries/check-ins! A big congratulations to Satendra for taking out the prize hamper (and earning some serious bragging rights).

We know motivation can dip during holiday periods, so we’ll keep finding ways to make those weeks fun, engaging, and rewarding. Keep your eyes peeled for the next challenge!

Public Resources – Diabetes & Blood Glucose

We’re working on expanding our public education resources to support self-management and informed decision-making, especially for clients with chronic conditions.

Starting with diabetes, you’ll see blood glucose management flowcharts around the gym and in the consult room. We’ve also placed a few bloods glucose testing kits in easy-to-access locations (look for one under the coffee machine). If you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and haven’t yet connected with one of our EPs about exercise planning, please speak with the team and we can discuss further.

Justice of the Peace (JP) Services in the Community

We’re pleased to report that a number of our members are certified Justices of the Peace and have kindly offered to assist with signing documents when needed. If you require these services and find it difficult to access external locations, let us know; support might be just around the corner.

Alternatively, public JP services are available every Wednesday at 11:30 am at both Woden and Belconnen Libraries as part of their rotating roster.

Digital GP – Cyber Security Talk

On Thursday 30 May at 2:30pm, we’ll be hosting a free presentation on Cyber Security from Digital GP. It’s a great opportunity to learn practical tips for staying safe online.

Bring your questions, enjoy a warm drink, and join us for a relaxed afternoon session with light refreshments.

Thank You for Supporting BRICKS & SMILES

On behalf of EQUIPD member, Len Minty and the team at BRICKS & SMILES, thank you to everyone who donated and helped raise awareness. Congratulations to raffle prize winners, Berit Garcia and Alison Zeitlhofer! It’s always an honour to support the causes our members care about most.

Welcome, Jackie!

We’re very happy to have Jackie Yow back in the Chifley gym. Jackie recently stepped in to cover our Stretch & Align class while Sandra was away and will continue to be available for future fill-ins. Her calm, welcoming energy has been a hit, thank you and welcome Jackie!

Anna’s Walk – Thank You

Despite the chilly morning, we were proud to see EQUIPD represented at Anna’s Walk on Sunday 18 May, raising awareness for bladder cancer. The loop around the lake was brief, but the impact was powerful.

We encourage all members to remain aware of their health. As the campaign reminds us: If there’s blood in your pee, see your GP.

2025 Student Placements Underway

We’re welcoming two students named Sam over the coming weeks!

One is in his final year of Exercise Physiology at the University of Canberra and will be supporting our clinical team through placement. The other is joining us for school-based work experience and will be exploring a different side of health and wellness support. Be sure to say hello, each brings a unique perspective to the gym floor.

New Blinds Installed

We’ve installed new blinds across the gym and group fitness rooms to help manage light levels during workouts. Feel free to adjust them as needed, but please roll with care to prevent tangles or damage.

Warming Up in Winter

As temperatures drop, a friendly reminder from your Exercise Physiologists and Instructors: please arrive a few minutes early to be ready to warm up before classes. It’s important not just for performance, but for injury prevention and keeping those muscles happy in the colder months. It’s also a small way to show respect for your instructors and classmates; let’s all try to get moving on time.

In Progress: What We’re Still Working On

A few updates are still under construction, but we’re excited to bring them to life soon:

Pre-Exercise Screening Upgrade

  • We’re working behind the scenes to roll out a more comprehensive screening process for new and existing members. It’s designed to better personalise your care and capture meaningful data from day one.

Merchandise and Product Range

  • From exercise towels and drink bottles to gym shirts and Therabands, we’re still exploring ways to offer high-quality, affordable merch and exercise gear for our members. Watch this space.

We Value Your Feedback

We always want to hear from you. Whether it’s praise, a suggestion, or constructive feedback, it helps us keep improving. You can chat with any team member, send a note via email to feedback@equipdalliedhealth.com.au, or leave a Google Review if there’s something the wider community should know.

We read every message and try to take action or provide a response to all feedback. Thank you for helping us grow.

As always, stay active, stay strong, stay EQUIPD.
